Preparing a machinery specification

In a seed or pulse processing line, for example, product type, input dimensions, moisture range and contaminants affect how throughput should be interpreted. Distinguish a single machine from a complete line. Identify feeding, transfer, packing and auxiliary units required.

This guide is not an engineering design or a performance claim for any model. A supplier must assess actual product and site data.

State throughput units, operating duration, acceptable product loss and output-quality criteria. Replace “high efficiency” with the result to be measured, the sample and the measurement method.

Ask whether quoted capacity is nominal or measured under specific product conditions. Include product changeover and cleaning requirements in the production plan.

List footprint, access height, electricity, compressed air, dust collection and other connections. Make drawing units and electrical requirements explicit. State who handles installation and commissioning.

Check the product rules applicable in the destination market. The EU’s CE guidance explains that marking applies to products covered by relevant rules; it should not be treated as a universal quality label for every machine.

Ask at quotation stage which material, duration, measurements and records will be used for factory and site acceptance. Document the next steps if performance does not meet the agreed criteria.
