GERMANY · APPLICATIONS FOR RECENT GRADUATES

Germany for recent graduates: settle the purpose first.

Being a recent graduate is not a separate visa type; what matters is the purpose of the trip. This guide separates short visit, further study and job search, and shows how a recent graduate who is not yet working can explain their profile and funding in a short-visit application.

Prepared for recent graduates from Türkiye who want to travel to Germany. The right route depends on your purpose (visit, study, job search).

Short answer

There is no standalone 'graduate visa' category. For a short trip you apply for a tourist/visit visa, for further study a national study visa, and to look for work national routes such as the Opportunity Card. A recent graduate who is not yet working should take care to explain their profile (education status, ties to return) and funding (own savings or a sponsor) consistently in a short-visit application. This page helps you choose the right purpose; you can find the job-search conditions on the job-search page.

SCOPE

Choose the purpose first

For recent graduates, the right route is set by the purpose of the trip.

Short visit

A short-stay Schengen application under the tourist/visit framework for a holiday, a cultural trip or visiting a relative. This page focuses on that profile.

Further study

For a master's or other study, a national study visa and the Auslandsportal process apply; see the Erasmus/study pages.

Job search

To look for work in Germany there are national routes such as the Opportunity Card; the details are on the job-search page. This page does not pile up job-search keywords — it routes you.

PROFILE

Education status

As a recent graduate, stating your diploma/graduation status and your plans consistently makes your application clear.

Ties to return

You may not yet have a job; that is why presenting family, educational or other ties to return consistently matters in a short visit.

Funding

Are you covering the trip with your own savings or with a sponsor/invitation? Explain this with current documents.

CAUTION

Points to watch for recent graduates

  • Avoid mixing purposesShort visit, further study and job search are different applications; clarify your purpose at the outset and move to the right page.
  • Job search is a separate routeLooking for work in Germany requires a national (D) visa and separate conditions; this page routes those details to the job-search page.
  • No guaranteeComplete documents do not mean approval; the mission decides.
FREQUENTLY ASKED

Recent-graduate questions

Is there a special visa for recent graduates?

No. There is no standalone 'graduate visa' category. A tourist/visit visa applies for a short trip, a national study visa for further study, and national routes such as the Opportunity Card for job search.

I'm not working — what should I show in a short visit?

It is important to show your education status, your ties to return, and your funding (own savings or a sponsor) consistently.

I want to look for work in Germany after graduating.

This is not a short-stay Schengen application; job search falls under a national (D) visa and there are routes such as the Opportunity Card. See the job-search page for details.

Which route for a master's degree?

Further study requires a national study visa and the Auslandsportal process; see the Erasmus/study pages.
